Bayou Recovery's 40-hour Peer Supporter program turns lived recovery experience into a real, portable certification. Mentor others, get hired by treatment centers and sober living homes, and earn 200 Bayou Bucks the day you certify.

The curriculum

Built with input from Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority, NA service committees, and oilfield EAP counselors.

    Orientation & Ethics

    4 hrs

    Confidentiality, scope of practice, mandatory reporting, self-care basics.

  2. 2

    Recovery Models

    8 hrs

    12-step, SMART, harm reduction, MAT, faith-based — meeting people where they are.

  3. 3

    Active Listening & Motivational Interviewing

    8 hrs

    Reflective listening, OARS skills, change talk.

  4. 4

    Crisis Response

    6 hrs

    Suicide screening, overdose recognition, Narcan administration, warm handoffs.

  5. 5

    Cultural Competence — SWLA Edition

    6 hrs

    Oilfield culture, Cajun family dynamics, faith communities, rural access.

    Documentation & Boundaries

    4 hrs

    Charting, supervision, dual relationships, when to refer up.

  7. 7

    Practicum

    4 hrs

    Shadow a certified peer supporter at a sober living home or recovery group.

Paid placements

Treatment centers and sober living homes in our network actively hire certified peers ($14–22/hr).

Volunteer hours

Run meetings, lead intakes, walk newcomers through their first week clean.

Path to LRSS

Hours count toward Louisiana's Recovery Support Specialist credential.
